Titanium dioxide for Paint & Coating
Introduction – What is Titanium dioxide?
Titanium dioxide, also known as titanium(IV) oxide, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula TiO2. When used as a pigment, it is called titanium white, Pigment White 6 (PW6), or CI 77891.
Requirements of titanium dioxide for Paint & Coating?
Generally speaking, it is “three high and one low, one strong and one good”, namely: high weather resistance, high dispersibility, high hiding power, low oil absorption, strong decolorization power, and good whiteness.
Difference between sulfuric acid and chloride titanium dioxide in paint & coating
Based on the use characteristics of different coatings, there are different requirements for titanium dioxide in terms of weather resistance, hiding power, aesthetics, and dispersibility. The application effects of the two different production processes of the sulfuric acid method and chlorination method are as follows: In terms of
usage, sulfuric acid rutile is usually 5% to 15% more than chloride rutile.
In terms of dispersion, sulfuric acid rutile is about 10% worse than chloride rutile.
In terms of hiding power, chloride rutile titanium dioxide is 10% to 15% higher than sulfate rutile.
In terms of surface properties, fluidity, yellowing resistance, and color stability, chloride-process rutile titanium dioxide is superior to sulfuric acid-process rutile titanium dioxide.
