BX Chain extender
Background
Green and low-carbon are the themes of today’s world development, and biodegradability and easy recycling are its main trends. With the development of the plastics industry, there are many problems faced. On the one hand, the industrialization technology trend of the synthesis of bio-based and biodegradable plastics such as polylactic acid (PLA), carbon dioxide epoxy alkane copolymer (PPC), polyhydroxyalkane ester (PHAS), become mature, the scale of industrialization is rapidly increasing, but these plastics have inherent disadvantages such as heat sensitivity, easy hydrolysis, poor melt strength and insufficient mechanical properties, and cannot even be used alone. On the other hand, polycondensation engineering plastics such as polyester (PBT, PET), polyamine (PA), and polycarbonate (PC) will degrade during processing, causing molecular weight loss and affecting the melt strength and processability of the polymer. As a result, recycled materials cannot be used in situations with higher performance requirements, and may even be treated as waste.
Introduction
Chain extenders are a new type of additive currently emerging in the modified plastics industry. The molecular weight of the polymer is increased by coupling or branching reactions of macromolecules through multifunctional compounds with good thermal stability. The chain extension reaction is usually completed by reactive extrusion technology, which has the advantages of simplicity, speed, safety, etc. It can improve product performance and material quality, thus improving the competitiveness of modified plastic products.
PLA, PPC, PHAS, PET, PBT, PA, PC are all condensation polymers. Their structures often contain reactive groups such as warp and radical groups. The growth and expansion of the molecular chain can be achieved through epoxy polymer chain extenders, thereby improving processing and application performance, and diversifying processing methods and application fields.
BX ADR products are multi-functional reactive polymeric chain extenders with improved thermal stability.
